Here’s a handy list of things homeowners should keep an eye on during the rainy season to protect their property:

🏠 Exterior & Roof

  • Check for roof leaks or missing/damaged shingles.

  • Clean gutters and downspouts to prevent overflow and water damage.

  • Inspect flashing around chimneys, vents, and skylights.

  • Trim overhanging tree branches to prevent them from falling or damaging the roof.

🚪 Doors & Windows

  • Inspect seals and weather stripping for gaps or deterioration.

  • Look for water stains or bubbling paint around windows and door frames.

  • Ensure proper drainage away from window wells and entry points.

🧱 Foundation & Crawl Space

  • Check for pooling water near the foundation.

  • Inspect crawl space or basement for moisture, mold, or standing water.

  • Ensure sump pumps (if any) are functioning correctly.

🌬️ Ventilation & HVAC

  • Make sure attic ventilation is clear to avoid condensation buildup.

  • Service your HVAC system to prevent humidity-related issues inside.

🧼 Interior

  • Watch for mold/mildew in corners, ceilings, and closets.

  • Listen for dripping sounds in the attic or behind walls.

  • Monitor indoor humidity with a hygrometer to avoid moisture damage.
